Retouching: Evoto vs. Imagen AI

Evoto is $9.99 a month for Basic, $19.99 for Pro, or roughly a dime per image. Batch retouching is fast. Skin, eyes, body shaping—1,000 images in minutes. Looks natural, not plastic.

But I can’t get past the cloud upload. You have to send your files to their servers. I shoot boudoir sometimes. Corporate stuff. No way I’m uploading that to who-knows-where. Plus no RAW support. JPEG and TIFF only. Dealbreaker for a lot of pros.

Imagen AI is different. Pay per image, about 10 to 20 cents, no monthly fee. Train it on 5,000 of your past edits and it matches your style. Shockingly accurate once it’s trained.

The setup sucks, though. Uploading 5,000 images ate my whole weekend. And like Aftershoot, it won’t touch skin or body work.

If you need fast skin work and don’t care about the cloud, Evoto’s king. If you want your exact color style on 2,000 wedding images without a subscription, Imagen AI is better. I use Imagen.

Creative Edits: Luminar Neo and Photoshop

Luminar Neo runs $9.95 a month annually, or $149 for a lifetime license. I bought lifetime because I’m sick of subscriptions. Sky replacement and AI masking are fast. Real estate shooters might like the relighting.

I tried the sky replacement on a session by the Illinois River. Dropped in a dramatic sunset. Looked like a bad postcard from 2003. It also chokes on big files. Not a Photoshop replacement. Decent sidekick, maybe. I regret the $149 sometimes.

Speaking of which, Adobe’s Photography Plan is $22.99 a month. Lightroom, Photoshop, 1TB cloud. Generative Fill actually works for object removal and compositing. Neural filters help with portraits.

But it’s Adobe. 100 generative fill credits a month, then they shake you down for more money. The learning curve is steep. If you need serious control, though, this is still it.

The Business Stuff: Pixieset and HoneyBook

Editing’s only half the job. You still have to show the photos, get paid, and answer emails.

Pixieset starts at free, but 3GB won’t hold one wedding. Paid plans run $12 to $48. Client galleries, proofing, contracts, invoicing. AI auto-tags images—bride, cake, first dance.

The AI tagging called the groom “male guest” in a gallery I delivered last month. Embarrassing. But the client portal looks clean. Worth the $12 if you do weddings.

HoneyBook is $9 a month for Starter, $39 for Pro. CRM, proposals, contracts, invoice chasing. The AI email assistant saves you from blank-screen syndrome.

The drafts sound like a robot apologizing for being alive. You’ll edit every single one so you don’t sound like a chatbot. But for $39, having everything in one place beats my old system of copy-pasting a pricing sheet into Gmail. I pay for Pro.

Roughly $60 to $100 a month depending on image volume. If you’re billing $2,000 for a wedding, that’s nothing. It’s maybe 3% of one job. Buys you back 5 to 10 hours per shoot.

That’s the difference between missing your kid’s soccer game and actually showing up. Or fixing the AC in your office. Or just eating dinner without checking your phone.

Buy the thing that fixes the part you hate most. Hate culling? Get Aftershoot. Drowning in admin? HoneyBook. Love your editing style but it takes forever? Train Imagen AI and move on.
